Mercedes-Benz has been offering V12 variants of its most luxurious cars for years, yet all engines were made in-house, and only AMG-branded offerings got the AMG-made engines. Now, however, according to an article from Autoweek, AMG will now be handling any and all V12s needed by both it and Mercedes.
This means that cars like the S600 or CL600 will now get AMG-made engines - the first car to benefit from this new direction is the upcoming 2014 S600. They will also continue to supply V12s for their own use, as well as for other uses, such as powering the Pagani Huayra.
We don’t really know if this will have a big impact on anything in particular, but telling everybody you have an AMG-engined car, despite it not being an AMG-tuned car may be enough of a bragging right for some people - the people who will buy the upcoming V12-engined cars from the Three Pointed Star.
