Alpina picked the best venue to launch its first ever SUV, the XD3 Biturbo, the Geneva International Motor Show.
Anyone that knows a thing or two about Alpina also knows that the German tuner has been modifying BMWs for more than 40 years and their cars are always better than the stock models.
Up until now, the usual Alpina versions covered the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series with their respective variations. This year, following customers' demands, the German company decided to take a swing at one of BMW's SUVs for the first time.
They decided to go with the X3 because the current generation, the F25 has grown a bit and is now almost the same size as the first BMW X5, the E53. The engine of choice they picked was the 3-liter diesel from the X3 xDrive35d version. They did some tweaking and came up with a 350 HP and 700 Nm beast that laughs at the standard 313 HP and 630 Nm of torque.
With these new numbers the car reaches 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, just .2 seconds slower than the X5M (which has 555 HP from a 4.4-liter V8 mind you). The XD3's top speed is 253 km/h. However the fuel consumption is extremely low compared to the V8's, sitting at 6.3 l/100km.
The release press conference started out with an interesting clip showing race driver Daniela Schmid taking the XD3 for a spin around a snowy mountain road. After that Mr. Burkard Bovensiepens, the founder of Alpina , took over to present their newest creation.
