The first pole for Italian team Ferrari in the last two years couldn't have been celebrated better than on the team's home court, at Monza. Tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix will see Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso start in the front of the pack, being seconded on the front row by McLaren's Jenson Button (1m 22.084s). Alonso scored 1m 21.962s, the only under 1m 22s lap of the day.
The Italian GP would have been even more exciting for the Prancing Horse's fans had the second Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, managed to complete the front row. Massa however only managed to finish the qualifying third.
At the opposite end, Red Bull racing had perhaps the worst qualifying in the 2010 season. Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel ended up fourth and sixth on tomorrow's grid, with leader Lewis Hamilton caught in between the two.
Webber's problems were caused by practice breakdowns, including an airbox fire earlier in the morning of the qualifying.
"We might have to run a slightly more conservative setting on that engine," Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner said according to GMM. "It's nothing for us to be too concerned about."
