Renault to Drop F-Duct for Italian GP

The French from Renault seem to be still quite keen on making changes to the use of the F-duct system so discussed over the past few weeks. The team has been at the front of the pack which rejected the idea at first, then implemented it on their R30 model and now are getting ready to drop it again after the Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday.

The system performed well for the French team in Sunday's race, helping Robert Kubica achieve a third place finish, thus fulfilling in some extent the Pole's expectations that the long straights and fast corners of the circuit would be the perfect match for the system.

For the next races however, given their more “tricky” nature, especially the next Italian GP, the team has decided to drop the system.

Several other teams, including McLaren, the ones which first came up with the system, are expected to pursue the same course of action. In McLaren's case however, secrecy is of the essence and the team has no plans to let the competition know what it plans to do before actually doing it, as team boss Martin Whitmarsh said.

"Monza will be quite a tricky race. It is a completely different downforce level track and I most probably will not have the F-duct there," Kubica told GMM.

According to the driver, if everything goes well in Monza, Renault might go for yet another try without the F-duct in Singapore.

“Singapore should be a good one for us. It is good track for us but most probably we won't have the F-duct there unfortunately," Kubica added.
