Alonso Aims for Singapore Podium

Fernando Alonso has now shifted his focus solely on the Singapore Grand Prix – the upcoming one, that is – where he now wants to score an undisputed podium for Renault. Following the immense scandal around the last year's race, the Spaniard will come to the Marina Bay Circuit with a new teammate and, hopefully, a new race strategy as well.

Alonso will return to the Asian city-state as winner of last year's event, but the FIA is yet to decide whether he'll still be awarded that win, considering the findings in the crash-gate. Regardless of what will happen, the 2-time world champion wants to put this all behind and score his first podium of the season, especially since the car looks stronger by the weekend.

The car is working well at most circuits so I believe we are competitive enough to get close to the podium, which has to be my target this weekend,” said Alonso, who also admitted that a good run in qualifying is necessary for a successful race on Sunday.

In addition, the team's technical director Bob Bell revealed that the Enstone based mechanics have prepared some new updates for the R29 this weekend. However, in an effort to keep the pace with it's championship rivals for next season, Bell also confirmed that Renault's main focus has shifted to the R30 for 2010.

We do have developments planned for some of the remaining races and they will come along in due course. There's nothing major but they are sensible upgrades that are already in the production process. Our main development focus is now completely on the R30 and getting ready for 2010,” added the Renault technical.
