McLaren Bring Last Update for MP4-24, at Singapore

The Singapore Grand Prix will witness McLaren Mercedes' last major update before they'll switch focus on the development of their 2010 car. The announcement was made by the team's very team principal Martin Whitmarsh, who confirmed that the Woking engineers are already working with one eye on next year's campaign.

Having developed the MP4-24 into a strong competitor this season – after one of the most disappointing first halves of a season in the team's history – McLaren will not make their final push on the 2009 machinery in order to finish the season on a high note.

For this race, we are introducing our last major upgrade package of the season before fully devoting our efforts and resources towards next year's car. Our pace in recent grands prix increasingly shows that we have developed MP4-24 into a pretty decent all-round competitor and we remain confident for the Singapore Grand Prix,” said Whitmarsh in a preview of the Singapore Grand Prix.

As for the short-time goals of team McLaren, Whitmarsh admitted the team is looking more relaxed ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, as last year's situation was much more dramatic and full of championship pressure. Lewis Hamilton and McLaren were then in the title hunt, while this year they will be able to push to the limit without having to think of nasty consequences.

I remember my race in Singapore last year was all about damage limitation - I was driving with one eye on the world championship and wasn't going to take too many risks. I was happy to finish on the podium. This year, it's very different - I know I'm out of the title hunt and I want to attack these last four races, pushing for as many victories as I can,” added Hamilton, who will try to restore his broken ego following his performance at Monza.
