McLaren Switch to 2010 Development

After Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes have also confirmed they are aiming to develop a competitive package for next season, able to bring the Woking based team race wins and, eventually, a world title. Although Martin Whitmarsh's team has obviously made some great progress in recent weeks – confirmed by their win at the Hungaroring – the Brit admits all thoughts at Woking go to their 2010 campaign.

However, when talking about the development of their 2010 challenger, Whitmarsh admitted the team still has to pay a great deal of attention to the MP4-24 also. And that's because there are very little changes in terms of aerodynamic package for next year, which means having a competitive car to work on this season will prove decisive for 2010.

“We knew what we had to do, we just had to find a way to achieve our goal and I think we have made significant progress with the car, as you can see from the results on the track. We won't stop at that we are going to continue to develop this car. But more importantly we want to ensure that we have got a competitive car for next season,” said Whitmarsh in an official McLaren interview.

“The aerodynamic regulation changes for next year are negligible. We obviously have the prohibition of refuelling, but that doesn't effect the overall aerodynamic package so I think we have got every reason to be confident.”

“At the same time we mustn't be complacent. A lot of teams have already stopped development on this year and started on next year and we have got to make sure we do a better job than them. The goal of this team is to be out there winning races and the world championship next year,” added the 51-year old Brit.
