Alonso Admits Worst Race with Ferrari in Turkey

Fernando Alonso admitted that his and Ferrari's latest performance in the Turkish Grand Prix has been by far the worst from the first seven rounds this season. While pleased with how his Ferrari F10 behaved in the first 4 races of the season – before Europe – the Spaniard said that his team lost a bit of pace as compared to Red Bull and McLaren once racing resumed on the old continent.

The two time world champion spoke openly about Ferrari's 800th grand prix in Formula One, suggesting that the car did not give him the opportunity to celebrate that milestone in a proper manner.

The Turkish Grand Prix was without doubt the worst event of the season. I am sorry I was not able to celebrate Ferrari's eight hundredth Grand Prix in a fitting way. In Istanbul we were not quick enough and we have to react immediately,” said Alonso, who missed out on a Q3 entry for the second time this season and struggled at the rear of the Top 10 for most of the race.

He admitted that most of the race he focused on damage limitation and that his 8th place at Istanbul still keeps him in the hunt for a 3rd F1 title. However, in order for that to happen, the Scuderia has to react right away, something that Alonso is confident of in the upcoming few races.

When I was racing against Ferrari, I admired its ability to react, producing probably the best development during the season. The people are the same now, so there is no reason why the same thing cannot happen this year: I trust our team and, above all, I trust in the will to win that every last one of us shares,” added Alonso.

Ferrari's next major aerodynamic package is set to debut in the European Grand Prix at Valencia, while in Canada the Italian team will only bring some slight changes to the F10. After 7 races this season, Alonso is 14 points off pace from leader Mark Webber, down in 4th place.
