Last year, the company financed over 830,000 new vehicle purchases, with the consumer retail contracts in the US totaling almost $23 billion, a figure that can be translated into a 60 percent increase compared to the previous year.
"Ally accounted for one in every eight new vehicle purchases that are financed in this country last year," said Bill Muir, Ally Financial president. The overall statistics, which combines new and used vehicles, purchases and leases, shows that the company financed $31.6 billion in consumer auto contracts in the U.S. in 2010, an 80 percent year-on-year increase compared to the figures posted in the previous year. In addition to that, the company offered financing for over 2.8 million vehicles sold to more than 5,000 American dealers in 2010, an increase of almost 80 percent compared to the 2009 figure.
"Ally has some inherent strengths that have led to our leadership position in supporting the auto industry, and those strengths have contributed to both the growth and diversification of our auto finance business," Muir added, commenting on the company's success.
