The all-new Seres 3 has just hit the UK market. No, it is not a typo. The Seres 3 has nothing to do with BMW's 3 Series, and it is the only electric crossover under 30,000 pounds currently available on the market in the United Kingdom.
The Chinese models are gaining territory in the European market inch by inch. They are trumping the German, Italian, and British models by coming with prices that are way below those of the European cars in every segment out there. And this is exactly what the Series 3 is doing right now, in an attempt to knock down the competition. It is the most affordable electric crossover on the market in the United Kingdom.

Operating under Dongfeng's umbrella, Seres promotes the 3 as a premium model and offers it in two different trims: Active and Spirit. Distributed through IA Electric Vehicles, it will set wheels on British soil this upcoming spring, starting at 29,995 pounds, which is the equivalent of $37,680.

Seres credits it with a modern design and advanced technology, plus premium materials on board. The entry-level version gets a keyless start, a rear-view camera, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen.

Meanwhile, the Spirit grade comes with a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and heated front seats. The dashboard and seats are wrapped in leather upholstery. Customers can order the range-topping Seres 3 for 31,995 pounds ($40,207).

The Chinese carmaker brags about installing six airbags on board and ISOFIX at the rear, but these are mandatory equipment on cars in the European Union. It also promises a cabin that is fuss-free and practical to operate.

The model is 173 inches (4,395 millimeters) long, 72.8 inches (1,850 millimeters) wide, and 65 inches (1,650 millimeters) tall, sporting a wheelbase of 104.5 inches (2,655 inches), which sends it straight into the small electric crossover segment to battle the Kia Mazda CX-30, the Volvo EX30, and Peugeot e-2008.

It sports a muscular design, elongated LED headlights, and a belting that highlights the athletic styling. It rides on multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels in anthracite grey.

Regardless of the trim, the Seres 3 is set in motion by an electric motor that generates 161 horsepower (163 metric horsepower), steered to the rear wheels. It does look sporty, but it is not quite a sports car. It takes 9 seconds flat to go from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 97 kph).

A lithium-ion battery pack, with a capacity of 54 kWh, stores enough energy for the car to drive as far as 205 miles (330 kilometers) before it needs to be plugged in again, according to the WLTP standard. The unit can recharge from 20 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Customers can order the UK's most affordable electric crossover starting this upcoming spring.
