Alguersuari Slams FIA's Testing Ban Policy

With the prospect of not having a certain Formula One seat next year, Jaime Alguersuari slammed the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for their decision to ban in-season testing in the series. Before making his debut in F1 midway through the season, the Spanish teenager was not allowed to do a single mile at the wheel of the STR4, having no F1 background whatsoever.

Basically, his first race in the sport was more like a learning lesson, which he completed well enough. He didn't make any rookie mistakes and managed to cross the finish line ahead of his teammate Sebastien Buemi. However, in the next 7 races, Alguarsuari's lack of experience was all too visible, as he recorded no less than 5 DNFs.

Looking back at his 2009 experiences in the sport, the Spaniard reckoned it was a mistake for him to focus on both his F1 and World Series by Renault programmes, but hinted that FIA's testing ban was what caused it all. As he wasn't allowed to drive the STR4 between the Grands Prix, he decided to keep himself in shape through the WSR outings.

I hadn't done almost a single kilometre of testing when I debuted, so it was like going to the slaughterhouse – but I am satisfied with what I did, especially towards the end. I hope that next year I have less technical problems,” said Alguersuari in an interview with the Daily Mirror.

Although he failed to score a single point for his team, the 19-year old was promised another shot at making the scoreboard next year by the team's boss Franz Tost. The Austrian official recently confirmed Sebastien Buemi for his team's starting lineup next season, but hinted that Alguersuari will stay at Faenza also to tackle the 2010 season.

I'm quite confident that from the middle of next year onwards we will have a good driver line-up because then Alguersuari will know all the tracks and Buemi is increasing his performance already,” Tost was qouted as saying to The Sun earlier this month.
