Alguersuari Blames Himself for Racing in 2 Series in 2009

Although he was quite sure he was doing the right thing keeping himself busy throughout the 2009 season with both Formula One and World Series by Renault racing, Spanish teenager Jaime Alguersuari this weekend reckoned that it was probably the worst decision he could have taken in the past season.

The Spaniard was offered a full-time racing spot with Scuderia Toro Rosso following Sebastien Bourdais' ousting from Faenza, yet he preferred to also maintain his commitments in the WSR series for the remainder of the 2009 season. And this not only affected his form during the F1 racing weekends, but also his focus.

On one hand it was very productive but it was also a complete error. I was investing energy into the two specialties and not able to focus on either. I would arrive at races and the others were at 120 per cent while I was not. It was a mistake,” said the Spaniard, according to Spain's Diario Sport.

Alguersiari failed to score a point in his first few outings with the team, but the Spanaird clearly sees it as a result of the lack of testing prior to his F1 debut. He insisted that the 6 extra days of testing before the 2010 season will make him a better driver by the end of next year, when he'll aim at extending his F1 stay either with Toro Rosso or with some other team in the series.

There will be six days of pre-season tests and it will be a good foundation, without a doubt, to finish the season seeing the best possible Jaime. The start will be hard because I don't know many of those circuits, but by the end I will be good enough,” added the Spaniard.
