Alfa Romeo SUV in the Works?

Employees at Elasis (Pomigliano), one of Fiat’s firms, got a little naughty with their photo cameras, and came up with some impressive shots of what seems to be an Alfa Romeo SUV test mule.

Looking at these pictures, first surfaced on alvolante.it, all we can say is “thank God for mobile phones with photo cameras,” as the car seems to be real. Analyzing the pictures, none of the shadows seem unreal or in the wrong place, so we don’t think this is a photoshoped trick to get us all excited. You can even see the Elasis headquarters in the background.

Another argument that these pictures are real is that it’s a known fact Alfa Romeo has been promising a SUV for some time. Remember the Alfa Romeo Kamal concept presented at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show? Well this car looks a lot like it, so it might be something close to the production version.

There have been rumors that the Alfa Romeo Kamal will go into production in 2010 on the 159 model platform, but nothing was confirmed. Plans might have changed due to Fiat’s acquisition of Chrysler. Under this new formula, Alfa Romeo’s possibilities of having a platform for building its SUV have grown, as it might borrow something from Chrysler.

Chances are that we will be able to find an official opinion about the pictures in Sergio Marchionne’s unveiling of Fiat Group’s mid term plans, which will be presented to the press later this month. Could this be a sign of things to come? We don’t know, but, for now, we like the way the Grande Punto headlights fit this SUV.
