Italian automaker Alfa Romeo today announced it will unveil two new MiTo engines on Saturday and Sunday that will be particularly focused on fuel consumption and environmental protection. The new units, 1.4-liter gasoline and 1.3-liter diesel, are developed and produced by FTP (Fiat Powertrain Technologies), the Italian company said in a press statement. The new units are expected to arrive in authorized dealerships across Italy next week, with overseas dealers to get them in the near future.
The 1.4-liter gasoline engine produces a maximum power of 120 hp at 5,000 rpm combined with a torque of 206 Nm at 1750 rpm. This engine helps MiTo accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, according to figures provided by Alfa Romeo, with top speed rated at 198 km/h (123 mph). Fuel consumption is quite impressive, the manufacturer said, with a combined cycle of 6.2 liters per 100 km (37.9 mpg).
The 1.3-liter unit on the other hand generates 90 horsepower at 4,000 rpm plus a maximum torque of 200 Nm at 2,000 rpm. This means the vehicle provides an average fuel consumption of 4.5 liters per 100 km (52.3 mpg) with very low CO2 emissions (119 g/km).
Pricing for the new 1.4-liter gasoline engine starts at 16,350 euros, while the diesel variant can be purchased for 18,950 euros, Alfa Romeo announced. Equipped with the sport package, the two models are sold for 18,750 and 19,750 euros for the gasoline and diesel version, respectively.
Alfa Romeo MiTo, which was officially introduced in 2008 at the British Motor Show, came with a wide range of engines, including gasoline and diesel powered units. The average price for a MiTo model is approximately 13,000 euros without taxes.
