Top-drawer high-performance motorcycle and automotive exhaust system manufacturer Akrapovic announces a new deal with Ducati Corse. The Slovenian manufacturer becomes an Official Sponsor for both Ducati’s factory (call it whatever you like) team and the factory-supported bike duo at Pramac Racing.
The deal became official during Ducati’s official 2014bike unveiling event in Munich, Germany last week. Ducati has already used the Akrapovic exhausts in the official 2014 pre-season tests at Sepang in Malaysia and the Bridgestone tire test session in Australia, at Phillip Island.
All 4 riders, Crutchlow, Dovizioso, Iannone and Hernandez will race with their Desmosedici GP14 bikes equipped with all-titanium exhausts developed in a joint effort between Ducati and Akrapovic. Speaking about the new deal, the company’s founder and owner Igor Akrapovic adds: “It is a big honor and pleasure to be working with Ducati at the highest level of motor sport. At the same time we take this challenge very seriously, as we want to be the best in every aspect of our work, on and off the track, and we understand that Ducati chose Akrapovi because of our capability to deliver our part in order to achieve the success of the whole team.”
In about one hour (at the time of writing) the new Ducati – Akrapovic duo will make the first official contact with the asphalt of the Losail Circuit in Qatar, as the inaugural Free Practice 1 of the 2014 season is about to begin. Racing under the mixed Factory and Open class regulations in 2014, Ducati has shown improved lap times in the Sepang tests. Remains to be seen how will the Borgo Panigale bikes fare this year…
