The Android Auto and CarPlay app ecosystems keep growing, especially as more developers notice that targeting drivers and bringing their software to cars on the road makes perfect sense.
Android Auto recently received two high-profile solutions, as new WebEx by Cisco and Zoom versions made their way to the Google Play Store with support for Google's in-car experience. Thanks to the update, users can participate in meetings and make audio calls without turning to their mobile devices.

Now CarPlay is getting a popular app, too, as Recast now supports Apple's in-car system thanks to the most recent update.

If you've never used Recast, you must give it a try. The application converts news articles into podcasts, letting you listen to anything like news or longer articles. Recast uses AI power to create rich audio summaries, letting you submit articles or listen to content submitted by other users. Considering the focus on audio content, Recast makes perfect sense in the car, so it was a matter of time until the developer shipped an update with CarPlay support.

Version 1.25, now available for download from the App Store, includes CarPlay support to "listen to your favorite podcasts while on the road, hands-free."

The interface is clean and straightforward, as the app puts the focus on the content you can listen to without spamming the user with unnecessary options. Users can browse a list of content generated for them, with the available podcasts displayed in a simple list with names, authors, and total time. The UI also offers one-tap access to trending content, the latest podcasts, and a queue to see what's coming next.

The new Recast version also includes several other goodies, including support for watchOS 10, the latest version of the Apple Watch operating system. Similar categories are available on the smartwatch, too, and you can choose what you want to listen to and control the playback right from the Apple Watch interface.

Recast now has a web app, too, which means you can access the content right on the desktop or an Android device. You no longer need an iPhone to use Recast, though the application offers plenty of other reasons to install it on an Apple smartphone. For example, the new smartphone introduces support for interactive widgets, so you can control the playback without launching the app's interface.

Interactive widgets are exclusive to iOS 17, so you must first update your iPhone to the latest operating system to get this feature.

Otherwise, once you install the latest Recast version, you should enjoy all the other features, including the CarPlay integration. The CarPlay icon should show up once the update is installed, with no additional changes required on your side.
