Japanese luxury vehicle manufacturer and Honda sub-division Acura took the wraps off its latest concept car, the SUV-X, at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.
Developed to preview a future Chinese market small SUV, the Concept SUV-X is Acura’s first world premiere of a concept vehicle outside of North America. Though the SUV-X sports an attractive design that seems to have broken off Acura’s usual habits of focusing more on luxurious and technology-packed interiors, a production version of the crossover won’t be available earlier than 2016.
“We are planning to produce the mass-production model of the Acura Concept SUV-X locally in China. With the hope that our Chinese customers will more closely feel the values offered from Acura, we will begin preparing for the start of the local production. In China, where dynamic growth continues, both Acura and Honda will keep up our efforts to enhance products and technologies that will offer new joys of mobility to our customers,” said Takanobu Ito, president & CEO of Honda.
In other Acura related new, the Chinese version of the RLX flagship sedan will go on sale in June 2013 featuring a newly-developed 3.5-liter V6 engine and Precision All-Wheel Steer.
