The BMW F30 3 Series has a wide range of engines available at the moment. The 3er starts off with 316i that uses a 1.6-liter 4 cylinder engine that produces 136 HP and 220 Nm which is respectable for an engine of this size.
This entry level car has a starting price tag of €28,500 in Europe (It's not available yet for the US). That is not a big price for the best car in it's segment. However, some of us might say that the 1.6-liter engine is too small and has too little power for a BMW.

That might be somewhat true. It's surely one of the least powerful engines available but that can change. AC Schnitzer, the German BMW tuner is offering a really interesting engine upgrade for the 316i.

Using their special technology, the guys from AC Schnitzer can increase the engine's peak output to 200 HP and 290 Nm. That is all coming out of a 1.6-liter engine.

They are also offering a 2-year warranty for all their products, so you won't have to worry about the engine breaking down. The CO2 levels will remain the same after this upgrade while the acceleration time from 80 km/h to 180 km/h (usually done on a highway run) is improved from 25.2 seconds on a standard car to 18.4 seconds. That's almost 7 seconds faster.

So if you're looking to have a car that outperforms a 320i at the price of a 316i, AC Schnitzer is the way to go... no doubt about it.
