The company promises that the engine’s praised fuel economy and emissions efficiency have remained untouched, while the unit’s power was upgraded from the standard 240HP to 278HP. The torque has also gone up from the factory stock 550 Nm to 580 Nm.
The clean and now mean(ish) Q7 sits on ABT springs, which bring it 30mm closer to the ground and it can ride on 2 types of ABT rims which come in 20 or 22 inch size. There are two finishes available for each type of wheel. Customers can also opt for a complete set of wheels with performance tires.
The aerodynamics package developed for this Eco-wannabe SUV includes side skirts, a wing extension, a rear skirt and exhaust covers. The latter can accommodate ABT’s 4-pipe rear muffler.
The pricing for all this refinements has not been revealed.
The 3.0 TDI clean diesel prides itself on being an engine which already meets the Euro 6 standard emissions that will be enforced in 2014. It uses a new common-rail injection system, innovative combustion chamber pressure sensors and a special exhaust gas recirculation system in conjunction with an exhaust gas after-treatment technology.
The latter is composed of a new DeNOX catalytic converter placed at the end of the exhaust system which reduces nitrogen oxides. Just upstream of it, a pump injects an additive named AdBlue into the hot exhaust flow, where this solution decomposes into ammonia, which splits the nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water. The tank’s capacity ensures a sufficient autonomy for the amount of time between scheduled maintenance, so the driver never has to worry about it.
For the real environment lovers however, we would recommend anything else but the pure fat Q7 to go with this engine. Like the A4 sedan, for example.
