To convince 2.3 tons of luxury SUV to reach 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, Audi fitted the SQ7 with an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo TDI engine.
It's the first of its kind in the world, capable of virtually eliminating turbo lag through the use of an electric air compressor. But it turns out there's still a lot of untapped potential, more than we expected. Dedicated Audi tuner ABT has played with the smart electronics and extracted 520 PS and 970 Nm of torque. Yes, that's more power than the AMG GT S from the same size of engine.

For the record, the stock model makes 435 PS and 900 Nm of torque. And considering what the e-charger does for lag, it's not surprising that they were able to shave 0.3 of a second off the 0 to 100 km/h time.

Taking into account that you don't need launch control to be that fast, in most everyday situations, this is going to be faster than the hyper hatchbacks.

"Oh, but I bet it sounds like a tractor," I hear you say. No, it doesn't! The SQ7 comes standard with an active sound system to which ABT added Sound Control. You can check that out in the video below, which we think takes a lot of inspiration from the R8's "The Eye" promo that got banned. And if you choose both the uprating and sound optimization, this package will save you a few euros.

As far as the cosmetics are concerned, they haven't changed that much. But the SQ7 sits 20mm lower to the ground thanks to Level Control and raises itself back at speeds exceeding 70 km/h.

The SUV is, of course, also available with a wide range of wheels. Both the DR and FR sets in 22-inch sizes are available from ABT, configurable in several colors and fitted with 295/35 R22 Dunlop or Continental high-performance tires. Optionally, buyers can spec +30mm wheel spacers, but we wouldn't, considering the huge loads placed on the suspension while cornering in a tank.
