In case you though that Morgan's bike v-twin-powered three-wheelers were the only cars to use motorcycle engines, think again. Things are stirring up in Volkswagen's camp, and we might just get to see a new race-bred beast powered by the heart of the amazing Ducati 1199 Panigale.
Funny as they sometimes are, German and Italian engineers seem to have found a way to take both cars and sport bikes to the next level, even if the new direction might seem strange to some. Most likely a development platform, the future VW XL Sports concept is rumored to shed a lot of weight, down to a final 795 kg (1,755 lbs).

Not sure how will the 1199 Panigale engine perform with such weight, especially given the fact that the bike weighs in at 165kg (364lb) dry. VW says they'll add a 2:1 reduction intermediate gear for their dual-clutch transmission and put to good use the silly 190 HP and 123 Nm (91 ft-lbs) to good use.

No matter where will this go, we're totally thrilled to see how will the XL Sports perform with a Panigale heart. Add in an Akrapovic exhaust and the world can end. We'll be back on this one.
