Classic cars with low mileages are like a mirage in the desert. They are rare, but some go crazy for them.
Well, this 1974 Volkswagen Beetle is not a mirage, as it only has 90 kilometers from new. That’s the equivalent of 56 miles, and it is wholly original, without any damage.
It will be put up for sale at Silverstone Auctions, and experts estimate its value at something between 35.000 and 40.000 euros. Enough to buy a fully loaded New Beetle and have money for fuel and servicing for many years of use.
However, a New Beetle will be nothing like this old Beetle that is in “as new” condition. Just look at it. Like many other used cars that were owned by elderly people who only drove them to church on Sundays, this vehicle was only used by its first owner, Armando Sgroi, from his home to a local place of worship.
According to the sellers, which took the time to find out the history of this particular car, the senior citizen never owned an automobile before, and did not seem to want this one either. For some reason, he bought it and only drove it until 1978.
Somehow, this Beetle was kept in a barn until recently, at Armando Sgroi’s farm. Experts claim this car still holds its original oil (this is not great news, mind you) and its first set of tires. Furthermore, it appears that this example even has its original books, invoice, and the presumably unwrapped tool kit.
The only treatment endured by this vehicle to bring it to this condition is a “light recommissioning,” which probably included a thorough cleanup. While the listing does not mention this aspect, we presume this vehicle doesn't have any rust on it.
However, the interested customer should know that a car like this would not be ready to take on a long trip after it has been stored improperly for such an extended period. Another fact to consider is that the value of this car might plunge once the mileage increases.
