Maserati is rumored to be bringing back the GranSport name, this time as a mid-engined sportscar. It’s easy to think that given the fact that the Alfa Romeo 4C is also mid-engined the two will be basically the same, offering the same 1.8-liter turbo engine.
But that’s not the case. Up until now, Maserati’s mainstay has been a 4.7-liter V8 built by Ferrari, but this will be replaced by a new twin-turbo V6 good for more than 450 horsepower, according to Auto Express.
This ties in with previous reports that suggested the 4.7-liter V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbo version of the Pentastar V6 from Chrysler Group.
The Maserati GranSport will debut in 2015 or later (Fiat is known for delaying projects) and will be based on the 4C to some extent. However, the new engine will also be used by the new Quattroporte sedan and Kubang SUV.
