In a few days, Volkswagen’s highly anticipated ID.3 electric car will go out in public for the first time, and we’ll finally get the full details the a model supposed to give birth to a new bloodline. But even without knowing all there is to know about it, people still seem to love the ID.3.
With about a week left until the car’s premiere at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen decided its time to update us on how pre-orders for the EV are going. And by the looks of it, they’re going great.

The ID.3 has been booked to date by over 30,000 Europeans, each of them paying €1,000 to get in line for the car. The bulk of these people come from Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. On top of them, Volkswagen said 100,000 people have registered to receive newsletters about the ID.3, meaning some of them could book one at any moment.

“Before the IAA, we have already reached our target of 30,000 reservations for the ID.3 1ST edition,” said when announcing the milestone Jürgen Stackmann, the man in charge with passenger car sales.

“This success shows that the ID.3 is coming at precisely the right time. More and more people want to switch over to e-mobility.”

All those who placed the non-binding pre-orders for the car will receive the 1st edition, a variant of the model that will be sold for a limited time. It comes with a medium-sized battery and a bunch of extra perks, including free charging for a year or a total of 2,000 kWh, voice control, and navigation system.

Volkswagen will offer the ID.3 in several battery configurations, with range starting from 330 km (205 miles) for the smallest one. This car is expected to cost under €30,000, while the 1st edition will likely retail from under €40,000.

When production begins, the EV will be sold in 29 European markets. In the most important of them, the ones mentioned above, the carmaker eyes 100,000 units sold per year starting 2020.
