Volkswagen ID.3 Interior Leaked, Looks Like a Mix of BMW i3 and Golf

We don't know if this is intentional or not, but a handful of images showing the ID.3's interior has escaped Volkswagen's clutches. If you're one of the 20,000+ people who've placed an order, you need to check this out.

If we were to guess, we'd say the photos are screenshots from a promo video, which also means Volkswagen is days away from showing the car, way ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show. It's amazing to think that the company has been showing fully electric concepts for many years but never sold something like this. Well, there was the XL1, but that's just a €100,000 science project.

Looking at these photos, we never got the feeling that we're looking at something new. When the SEAT el-Born was shown at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, we immediately said it's a pre-production version of the ID.3. As you can see, the column-mounted shifter, tablet display and even the dashboard are the same.

From what we understand, SEAT was given millions in development money to make this screen, which we've seen in 2020 Leon prototypes too. Beneath it, the conventional Climatronic dials and buttons have been reduced to a capacitive control slider.

As for the steering wheel, it's a new, pointy-looking design that made its debut in the Passat facelift. Volkswagen likes to share steering wheels between most of its cars, and the electric ones should be no exception. This is a 380mm diameter, right?

In case you're wondering, the ID.3 is so-called because it represents the 3rd era of Volkswagen models, after the Beetle and Golf. It will have many different configurations, the most expensive of which will boast a 204 HP rear motor and 77 kWh of usable battery for a max range of 550 km.
