It may be a vessel, a super boat namely, but even so that kind of output makes any passenger think twice before embarking. However, it’s not just speed this beast was prepped for by the Apache Powerboats. They created it to mark a historic event, other than breaking a world speed record, which is crossing from Florida to Cuba.
The record-breaking attempt needed around three years of paperwork for the Caribbean island nation to allow finally the crew to embark on their mission, but happily it ended up the right way. According to Naples Herald, the Apache Star set a record for the fastest trip from the U.S. to Cuba on a boat, clocking in at one hour and 30 minutes.

The result is quite impressive, judging by the fact the previous record - set by Forest Johnson in 1958 - was six hours and 22 minutes.

As we mentioned, this is more than a speed record, judging that the political differences between the two countries stopped any other watercraft from doing the trip since 1963. With the early 1960s, the Cold War intensified and limited such travels.

This time around, however, Apache Powerboats eventually received authorization from the government, mainly thanks to the recent thawing of diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba.

Now, let us take a closer look at the super-powerful boat for a change. For starters, it’s important to mention that it took them one and a half hours to make the 90-mile trip from Key West to Havana, Cuba. Dubbed Apache Star, the boat had previously won world championships back in 1992 and 1993. The vessel is a Kevlar and carbon fiber Deep-V race boat capable of speeds in excess of 100 mph.

According to its makers, the boat received a number of modern upgrades as part of an extensive restoration effort in preparation for its record attempt, including new, custom-made helmets and Recaro racing bucket seats that utilize technologies developed for fighter jets.
