It's been exactly a year since American bike maker Buell announced the newest entry in its lineup of motorcycles, the Super Cruiser. When it was announced in 2023 the bike was merely a concept, but now, a year later, a production prototype is about to meet the crowds.
Buell's Super Cruiser is a derivation of the 1190 which benefited heavily when it comes to its design of input coming not only from Buell's people themselves, but also from custom and tuning powerhouse Roland Sands Design.

Compared to the 1190 it is based on, the Super Cruiser is supposed to bring to the table several important modifications, including improved steering angle and rake. Also new on the bike are the wheels (17 inches in size), tires, and brakes, with the chassis suffering some minor changes as well.

Inside the frame the motorcycle will pack an 1190cc liquid-cooled V-twin powerplant that will be capable of generating 175 horsepower. That's a huge punch, and it becomes even more so when you consider the fact the motorcycle tips the scale at just 450 lbs (204 kg).

The concept of the Super Cruiser was shown in public for the first time at the 2023 Daytona Bike Week, and Buell will use the same event, which this year takes place between March 1 and 10, to show in front of the public a production-intent prototype of the motorcycle.

What that means is that the company has now moved one significant step closer to production, and it's likely we'll get to see the bike hit the road in private riders' hands by the end of this year.

There is still some fine-tuning to be made, though, and the American bike maker plans to ask "select media" about how the bike feels during private test rides that will be held later this spring.

It's clear that people's interest in the bike is very high even without words of praise from the media. About six months after it announced the Super Cruiser, in October of last year, Buell revealed it had raised no less than $120 million in pre-orders.

Simple math would tell you that, at an expected sale price of around $30,000, that sum would translate into around 4,000 motorcycles, which is not bad at all for a brand-new motorcycle model.

On the other hand you should know Buell is asking just $50 as a pre-order deposit, so the number of people interested in the motorcycle could be much greater. And that's without taking into account whatever number of pre-orders Buell has received since it last updated us on this topic.

The March public reveal of the Super Cruiser is the highlight of the company's lineup for 2024, which should be according to Buell CEO Bill Melvin "a breakout year for Buell."
