2025 Audi A7 Avant Spied As Mercedes E-Class Estate and BMW 5 Series Touring Rival

There is no typo here, as this is indeed the first-ever Audi A7 Avant. Well, first by name, as it represents the successor to the current fifth-gen A6 Avant, which has been around since 2018.
But why did the four-ring brand give it a new name? Because it's part of their electrification strategy. Thus, odd numbers will be used for cars featuring internal combustion engines, and even numbers will be used on electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the A and Q will soldier on, with the former denoting traditional passenger cars and the latter crossovers and SUVs.

That said, say hello to the 2025 Audi A7 Avant. The model was recently captured in the open by our spy photographers, looking pretty much like an evolution of the existing A6 Avant. It has a smaller grille, new headlamps, and a bigger front bumper. The roofline is more arched behind the central pillars, it features flush-mounted door handles and a new taillight signature with a full-width light bar that looks more intricate here than on its electric counterpart, the upcoming A6 Avant e-tron.

Speaking of which, there are more differences between the ICE and EV business wagons. The former has split headlamps, a closed-off grille, and more traditional-looking taillamps. Moreover, the electric model's roofline is not as sporty as its ICE-powered counterpart, so it will offer more headroom for backseat occupants and a large cargo area behind the seats. The tailgate, roof-mounted spoiler, and rear bumper also differ, and likely so will the wheels once both vehicles hit the assembly line.

Audi's all-new A7 Avant, just like its sedan sibling, will launch with various internal combustion engines. We expect the powertrain family to feature hybrids and plug-in hybrids, too, as well as the quattro all-wheel drive system, which will be reserved for the upper specs. As you may suspect, the RS 7 should boast a neck-snapping amount of power, and it has been said that it might pack an assembly sourced from Porsche, maybe with plug-in capabilities.

It has yet to be confirmed whether the Avant will get the same sporty treatment, but it will likely get it, considering that the current RS 6 Avant and its predecessors are icons in the executive segment for super wagons. The EV models are also expected in the RS flavor, and they are believed to boast in excess of 800 horsepower from their bi-motor setups. We have yet to learn how much the RS 7s will put out, but it should be well over 650 metric horses, as that's the rumored output of the hot variant that we recently saw testing.

Production of the next-gen Audi A7 (sedan and estate) will probably commence sometime next year, and we reckon they might launch stateside for the 2025 model year.
