The upcoming Audi A7 Avant, which will be the first of its kind in name, has returned to the scoop arena a few months after we last saw it testing. The tester was snapped doing its thing in Europe's frozen north, and it had the same camouflage covering its body.
As a result, it is hard to make out some of the styling novelties. However, it is clear that the entire car is new. It has a slightly smaller grille, a cleaner-looking bumper, and smaller headlamps up front. The front and rear overhangs appear to be slightly longer, and at the rear, it should resemble some of the brand's latest models, likely sporting a full-width light bar.
The space between the axles has likely increased a bit, which would mean a slightly roomier cockpit that we have yet to see. Nevertheless, a pair of dual large screens will occupy a good chunk of the new dashboard panel, and it is possible that the four-ring brand will give it a third display for the HVAC system at the upper part of the central console. Look for the latest technology features, enhanced comfort, and likely updated safety systems.
But what exactly is the Audi A7 Avant? Well, it is the successor to the current A6 Avant after the Ingolstadt company decided to use even numbers for its upcoming EVs and odd numbers for vehicles packing good old internal combustion power. And the Avant, which is Audi slang for station wagon, won't be the only body style of the upcoming A7 series, as it will be joined by the four-door sedan, which will continue to take on the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class.
The upcoming A6 (Avant) e-tron will join the offering with EV power, setting itself apart from the ICE variants by adopting a closed-off grille, as there is no traditional engine behind it to feed air to, split headlamps and probably more traditional-looking taillights. It will also have a less-arched roofline, translating to more headroom on the second row and likely a bigger trunk behind it.
Power-wise, the next Audi A7 lineup is expected with hybrid and plug-in hybrid assemblies. A full-blown RS model is in the pipeline, too, and it will top the offering in terms of performance and pricing. Details surrounding its powertrain are yet unknown, though it might get a Porsche-sourced plug-in hybrid, likely with an impressive amount of power, but not that much to step on the toes of its Zuffenhausen siblings.
The official unveiling will probably take place later this year, and the German car manufacturer may bring the new A7 to our shores as a 2025 model, maybe with a small price bump. The 2024 A6 Sedan starts at $58,100, and the RS 6 Avant is $125,800 plus destination and dealer fees.
