Special exterior and visual upgrades derived from the Wildtrak series Ford Ranger – this is how the European-only special edition of the pickup called by the Blue Oval Thunder can be summed up.
Riding the high wave of its best ever year in Europe – over 52,000 Ranger pickups were sold there by the American carmaker in 2019 – Ford is going for another record in 2020, despite the challenging ongoing events. To help it reach that goal, the Ford Ranger Thunder will roll out this summer as a special-edition model.
Coming to the market as a single specification Ranger derived from the Wildtrak with double cab body and four-wheel-drive, the Thunder brings no performance upgrades, but enough visual and comfort enhancements to make it worth the £32,965 asked for it in the UK - the Thunder will sell elsewhere in Europe as well, but pricing has not been announced.
Wrapped in Sea Gray with red highlights, the pickup sports exclusive 18-inch black alloy wheels, Ebony Black on the front grille, rear bumper, skid plates, fog light surrounds, load bay sports hoop and door handles, and darkened LED headlights.
Special Thunder badges are fitted on the two front doors, and the Ranger logo comes in matte black at the rear, while the interior is all leather in black and red.
“With an edgier look for customers who aren’t afraid to be noticed, the new Ranger Thunder will be an unmistakable presence,” said in a statement Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe.
“This capable, comfortable and stylish addition to Europe’s best-selling pick-up range is as tough and versatile as it is charismatic.”
Under the hood of the special edition Ranger hides Ford’s 2.0-liter bi turbo four-cylinder diesel, which develops 213 ps and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque and is linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
