Following the grand reveal online, the X6 will head to the IAA 2019 in September for the real-world premiere of the mid-size sports activity vehicle. Codenamed G06, the third generation of the X6 impresses with the size of the kidney grille and illuminated grille option.
Produced in Spartanburg, South Carolina for the entire world, the luxurious SAV is based on the CLAR platform of the 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X3, X5, and X7. For the time being, BMW offers three powertrain options in the guise of 3.0- and 4.4-liter turbocharged engines. The B58 and N63 are with the gasoline crowd while the B57 is the diesel alternative.
Every single one of them, including the M50i and M50d, are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. xDrive all-wheel drive is a given at this price point and in this segment, as is a curb weight that starts at 2,055 kilograms (4,530 pounds). The G06 also happens to be larger than its predecessor, featuring 580 liters (20.5 cubic feet) of trunk capacity.
Up to 1,530 liters with the rear bench folded into the floor is another highlight of the X6, and as expected, models in the Old Continent adhere to the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. Available either as an xLine or with the M Sport package, the sports activity vehicle can also be had with 12.3-inch displays and Reverse Assistant if you’re tech-savvy.
Thermoelectric cup holders, glass for a few knobs and switches, the Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, and Bowers & Wilkins Diamond+ 3D Surround Sound System are a few other quirks of the X6. Heading the lineup in Frankfurt will be two M models “boasting extremely powerful V8 gasoline and straight-six diesel units,” namely the M50i and M50d.
“Crisply drawn lines, powerfully sculpted surfaces and proportions that have been stretched to even more dynamic effect help to give the car’s exterior an athletic, commanding and imposing appearance,” is how BMW describes the newcomer. Come November 2019, the X6 will be launched in a number of markets including Germany.
