While the recent launch of the C-Class facelift left many lusting over the 4-liter AMG model again, we figure most UK customers will be more interested in reasonable versions of the C-Coupe and C-Cabrio.
The A205 and C205 have gone through a mid-life facelift. Mercedes has no less than three models for those of you who like the wind in your hair in a 2+2 configuration. And while the cosmetic changes are mild at best, they have at least updated the engines.
The German luxury automaker has been using a 2.1-liter diesel engine for as long as we can remember. It's slightly rough, with a small sweet-spot of torque. This has finally been replaced by a 2-liter... 1,995cc engine that's available with two power outputs.
First, there's the new C 220 d, shown in our gallery as both a coupe and cabriolet in combination with the ever-popular AMG Line body kit. This new engine delivers 194 HP sent to the rear (GBP 40,130) or all four wheels (4Matic for GBP 41,730) via a 9-speed automatic.
Completely new to the C-Class range is the C 300 d system which uses two turbochargers to achieve 245 HP, again available with the rear (GBP 41,185) or AWD (GBP 43,095).
The gasoline engine lineup is hardly recognizable too, thanks to the C 200 using a 1.5-liter with 184 HP. At GBP 37,620 for the Coupe, it's cheaper than any diesel. The most expensive model remain the C63 S ones, which cost GBP 78,000 or more. However, we've recently discovered the C43 is a real sweet spot, thanks to a boost in power to 390 HP and standard AWD. The pdf file we've attached should give you full pricing information.
Cosmetic changes are quite small. However, the C63 version now sports the Panamericana grille while all models are now available with a better navigation screen, new steering wheel, and digital dashboard.
