The Mercedes-AMG G63 is a velocity tool that needs no introduction. So how, then, do you announce the arrival of an all-new generation? Well, we don't have to answer this question, since the market arrival of the 2019 Affalterbach-massaged Gelandewagen has already taken place. Instead, we're here to bring you a battle between the two high-riding sprinters.
The 2019 and the 2018 incarnation of the G63 got together in Russia, but their meeting was more than a casual street encounter. Since the two met as part of 2019 model review, their sprinting brawl was serious.

We're looking at a half-mile race, one that involves a standing start. In fact, the speed behemoths duked it out on two separate occasions, so you don't have to worry about the relevance of the conclusion.

The most important update brought by the generation change comes from a diet that saw the car losing a full 170 kg.

As for the engine compartment, the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 of the old model made room for Affalterbach's infamous TT 4.0-liter V8. And despite the fact that the engine doesn't show its full potential under the hood of the G63, this still delivers 585 hp and 850 Nm of torque. And yes, the uber-cool exhaust layout that has thrilled us over the years is here to stay.

If this sprinting action got you in the mood for 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 hooning, we'll remind you that we recently delivered another speeding stunt involving the machine. We're referring to an acceleration sprint that saw the SUV beating its official 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) time.

So while the German automotive producer talks about the brute requiring 4.5 seconds for the said task, an independent test showed that the vehicle can play the game a full 0.5 seconds quicker.

Oh, and by the way, the drag racing stunt awaits you at the 8:40 point of the clip below.
