Land Rover is currently working overtime to fully capitalize the aura of its Range Rover badge and this means the British engineers are getting overly busy on the Nurburgring.
The past week has seen not one, but two different Rage Rover prototypes lapping the Nordschleife, both set to become 2018 models once the development work is completed. And you can find them in the pair of clips at the bottom of the page.

We're talking about the mid-cycle revamp for the Range Rover Sport, as well as the Range Rover Sport Coupe - keep in mind that the latter, which has been spied testing at multiple locations across Germany, from Mercedes-Benz's Sindenfilgen plant to the Autobahn, will have a different name once it becomes showroom reality.

The handling difference between the two is obvious, with the beefier Range Rover Sport putting more of a burden on its tires, hence the extra squeal. As for the swooping roofline model, this is basically a Jaguar F-Pace in Range Rover attire and you can see the extra cornering appetite packed by the vehicle.

Nevertheless, the two should share at least a part of their engine line-up and the most important part of this comes from the Sindelfingen sighting mentioned above. You see, Land Rover is rumored to add the straight-six configuration to its Ingenium engine family, while Mercedes-Benz will certainly make an in-line six return in 2017. Put these bits of info together and it seems like the two automakers may be collaborating, but it's too early to know for sure.

As for the visual part of this story, we're dealing with opposite approaches here. To be more precise, while the SUV-Coupe will bring a radical styling change for the Range Rover family, the Range Rover Sport mid-cycle will deliver minimal design changes, as hinted by the restrained camouflage on the test car seen here.

We'll return with more updates on the fresh side of the Range Rover family as soon as we get our keyboards on them.
