The fourth-generation Prius is the next big thing waiting to erupt in the PHEV world, so it's only natural for fans and enthusiasts to be on the lookout.
That's how we found out about the video you are about to see, which shows Toyota's upcoming Prius hybrid roaming the streets of San Francisco.

The good news is we can take a good look at the car, as the clip's quality is above what we've seen so far, but the bad news has a lot to do with that thick layer of camouflage extending over the test mule's body.

However, let's focus on those round cut-offs that let us get a glimpse of the red taillights. From where we're standing, this is a good indicator of the fact that the new Prius will have boomerang-shaped taillights (as seen in some renderings) but don't take that for granted just yet.

The seating position of the driver seems lowered compared to the ongoing Prius, but keep in mind that's what we get from the video. We'll be able to provide more info on the car is unveiled and we get a chance to take it for a spin.

The new Prius: what we know so far

Well, officials think it is "fantastic". We're talking about Jim Lentz here, Toyota North America CEO, who said he drove the car, and that's how the new Prius made him feel.

Last month, Mr. Lentz let us know the new Prius is coming soon, but without suggesting an approximate launch date. We think the 2016 Prius could debut this fall, at the Tokyo or Los Angeles Auto Shows.

The hybrid will be underpinned by the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform and Toyota even allowed themselves the luxury of delaying the launch just to make sure the car's design and tech are up to date.

Also, the new Prius (codenamed 690A), could boast 40 percent thermal efficiency, the highest ever for a production vehicle. No word on the powertrain yet, but we have a hunch more info will emerge soon.
