Give the French enough time and they will install an awesome feature from a sexy concept car on a family minivan. It's going to happen on the all-new 3008, which will have a digital dashboard that resembles something we've seen on the Exalt Concept.
The Exalt also gave the Peugeot 508 and 2008 facelifts its sharp grille design. But the digital dash has almost become a leitmotif of French design. The Quartz crossover had one, and the recent all-electric DS E-Tense GT had the same design as the Exalt, only slightly bigger.
As you may have already noticed, there's something weird about this digital dashboard. Instead of one big screen, there seem to be two of them, separated by standard dashboard lights and a monochrome speed indicator in the middle. So you can't have a big map in the middle like on a VW or Audi. But that little quirk is normal for Peugeot, a company whose rev counter turns backward.
Otherwise, not much has changed since we last saw the 3008 prototype. It's still a crucial car for Peugeot, as it straddles the compact, crossover and MPV segments. It's going to share its underpinnings and maybe even the engines with a sister car from Citroen, another model for China (built by Dongfeng) and Opel's crucial 2017 Merica that will also adopt the look of an MPV.
The gasoline engine range of the all-new 3008 is said to include a 3-cylinder petrol 1.2 PureTech with 130 PS and a 1.6-liter making 165 PS. Diesel options will be the most numerous and popular, ranging from a basic 120 PS model (the most efficient available) to the most powerful 2-liter making 180 PS. All-wheel drive will be optional on high-powered engines, just like it is on the Nissan Juke. Transmission choices will include a standard 6-speed manual and the same automatic used by the 308.
