A couple of days ago, Mercedes released video footage of the new SLC-Class model that replaced the SLK, and it's found its way to YouTube. Just because this is technically an older car with new features doesn't mean we can't enjoy about 10 minutes of exhaust sound.
Porsche's 718 Boxster is arguably the most technologically advanced and beautiful roadster. But the SLC has some good points too. Yes, the fact that the 5.5-liter naturally aspirated engine is gone was a nasty surprise, but the V6 that replaced it is almost as good.

The engine sound was the main thing we watched out for in these videos. Yes, we are dealing with the same twin-turbo 3-liter that the S400 and other Mercs have got. But it's got active valves and sounds decent.

Even though Mercedes treats this car as a full-fat AMG, it's more like one of those AMG Sport models they used to market. The output of the engine is 367 PS and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft), so it's not as powerful as the V8 that had 421 hp and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft).

The skin graft at the front is just as successful as it was when they made a facelift of the previous E-Class generation. There are new headlights in the same style as the C-Class and a new type of lower fascia. The star grille and all those black accents might have already drawn your attention. Around the back, we see a new design is being used for the exhaust pipe trim and the taillights have been refreshed.

The last video at the end is of the SLC 300 that uses the same 2-liter turbo engine as its C-Class sedan counterpart. 245 horsepower in a 2-seater doesn't sound too bad.

What you need to keep in mind is that neither of these vehicles is particularly cheap, even though they are based on an older Mercedes model. The SLC 300 will set you back €46,380 in Germany. While that makes it cheaper than the €52,646 Porsche 718, the Boxster has 300 horsepower and will run rings around it. As for the SLC 43, it's not exactly the deal of the century when you consider that it starts at 60k.
