Ducati introduced an entry level Monster 797 earlier at EICMA, but if you’re an experienced rider, you might want to try out the new Monster 1200 and Monster 1200 S, both being presented with more power and cooler styling at the same bike show in Milan, Italy.
The demonic 1,198 cc Testastretta twin has been tuned to meet Euro 4 emissions regulations and, contrary to your expectations, it gained a few ponies in the process. The powerhouse now cranks 150 hp and 126 Nm (93 lb-ft) of torque, translating into 15 hp more than the previous 1200 and five horsepower more than the 1200 S.

The trellis frame is the same, but the single sided swing arm and the diecast aluminum foot pegs are new. So is the restyled steel tank that still comes with the classic attachment clip, the tail section, and the full-color display.

In standard shape, the Monster 1200 comes with a new dual silencer exhaust, ten-spoked rims wrapped in Diablo Rosso III tires, adjustable 43 mm Kayaba fork, adjustable Sachs shock, Brembo brakes, three riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban), color TFT instrument panel, and the Ducati Safety Pack (new 3-level Bosch Cornering Anti-lock Braking System, 8-level Ducati Ride Control, 9-level Ducati Wheelie Control).

If you like red, you’ll be happy to hear that the standard Monster 1200 only comes in that shade, including the frame, plus black rims. The 1200 S on the other hand, is offered in an extra Liquid Concrete Grey with black frame and black rims setup.

Speaking about the S version, this swaps the front fork with an adjustable 48 mm Ohlins one, and same thing goes for the rear end, where a fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorber replaces the standard Sachs one. The brake discs and calipers are slightly bigger while the whole bike gets a more modern look through an LED daytime running light integrated in the headlamp.
