Ladies and gentlemen (crossover) drivers, meet the 2017 Cadillac XT5. Sure, we've seen the first images of the SRX replacement back in June, when the car was spotted naked in Manhattan (pics included in the gallery below). But now we have the first official photos and things are looking good.
Cadillac just tweeted a set of photos of their upcoming CUV, as the company has partnered with the Public School of New York, a fashion label, to introduce their latest offering.
This joint effort is only the latest move in a plan that sees the XT5 making an around-the-world debut. While GM will continue to drop images, as well as bits of info, the crossover is scheduled to make its debut on November 10 at the Dubai Motor Show. In a bit of a time zone mashup, the XT5 will then make its American soil premiere ten days later, at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
The vehicle itself
If that front fascia seems familiar, it's not thanks to your foresight abilities. Instead, Cadillac has chosen to insert many of the CT6 flagship's features into the crossover's face.
We have yet to conquer the cabin of the XT5, but the carmaker promises an aura of luxury, with the fashion alliance mentioned above also pointing to that. The company gave us the video below, but the footage only teases us with fancy moments.
This is no time for imagination efforts though, as we have technical aspects to discuss. Underpinning the XT5, we'll get GM's all-new C1XX platform - don't worry about the complicated name, this is simply pronounced "Chi".
Instead of the SRX's old 3.6-liter LFX V6, we'll see GM's new LGX V6 at work. Once again shared with the CT6, as well as with the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, we've met the powerplant in 336 hp and 284 lb-ft (385 Nm) trim so far. The unit will work with GM's Hydra-Matic 8L45 8-speed auto.
It remains to be seen whether the XT5 will also pack the 6th-gen Camaro's 275 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) four-cylinder turbo as an entry-level engine.
Cadillac isn't just replacing the SRX, its aging, and yet best-selling nameplate, with the XT5. Oh no. Instead, you should be prepared for an entire family of XT-dubbed crossovers.
While we could see an entry-level model fighting the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1, it's no secret that Cadillac is preparing a vehicle that will be slotted in between the XT5 and the Escalade all-time daddy.
Returning to the 2017 Cadillac XT5, the CUV is set to roll off the assembly line at Spring Hill, Tennessee, starting from early 2016.
