So far we've been living on spyshots and fan-provided pictures of the upcoming Cadillac XT5, which didn't to much to satisfy our curiosity.
Cadillac officials are not helping with the good news either since the possibility of a performance-oriented XT5 SUV has been ruled out.

The piece of news comes from a report published by Autonews, saying a V-series derivative for the upcoming Cadillac XT5 is unlikely.

As the SUV segment is becoming an active volcano after carmakers made a habit out of blessing their SUVs and crossovers with hardcore performance packs - yes, BMW X5 M, you're one of them, but the list also includes the likes of Audi RS Q3 or Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG - Cadillac is saying no to this practice, at least for now.

Speaking to the same source, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen made it clear he isn't interested in adding the V badge to a crossover anytime soon.

"If you want to get our engineers to instantly experience a massive rolling of the eyes, you should ask them" about a V-series crossover, de Nysschen said.

He then suggested Vsport variants might be spawned for the crossover, right before changing the subject and implying he would rather imagine a high-performance version for the Cadillac Escalade, which already packs 460 horsepower coming from a humongous 6.2-liter V8

In the meantime, the XT5's production is expected to start in early 2016, but we could see the crossover during this year's New York International Auto Show, where the XT5 should show off a 3.6L LGX V6, the naturally aspirated six-cylinder mill. That's the same engine found on the CT6 and sixth gen Camaro, so expect 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft (385 Nm) of torque.
