Too much is never enough for Brabus. For this year’s edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the Bottrop-based tuner took a Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe and transformed it into a 350 km/h (217 mph) land-attack missile with so much torque it makes most heavy-duty trucks blush.
When it leaves the AMG facility in Affalterbach, the 6-liter twin-turbo V12 of the Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe develops a monstrous 630 horsepower and 1,001 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque, enough get-up-and-go to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds. The Brabus 900 Rocket Coupe, on the other hand, turns everything up to eleven.

Brabus engineers first increase the displacement to 6.3 liters by boring out the cylinders and fitting them with new forged pistons. A billet crankshaft with longer stroke and balanced piston rods are on the menu as well. After that, the standard turbochargers are replaced together with the exhaust manifolds. Vector in other goodies such as a different intake manifold, pressure pipes wrapped in heat reflection sheathing made of gold, special mapping for the ignition and injection, and the final result comes in the form of mind-boggling performance.

Without further beating around the bush, the latest creation from Brabus develops 900 horsepower (887 bhp) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) of oomph. The thing is, the automatic transmission can’t handle so much abuse, which is why the engine is electronically limited to send up to 1,200 Nm (884 lb-ft) to the rear wheels. That’s enough grunt to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and carry on to 217 mph (350 km/h). Oh, wait a minute, the fine print reads “in excess of.”

Don’t ask me about the price, though, because every Brabus is made according to the customer’s specifications. What that means is that you can personalize the Rocket with something more pleasing to the eye than those hideous wheels and the magnolia & light brown leather upholstery of the pictured car.
