We knew that BMW was planning to use an M4 Safety Car for this year’s MotoGP Championship, and we also knew that it was going to be rather special. The car they chose to showcase uses an injection water cooling system that helps improve the performance of the 3-liter biturbo engine.
However, the Germans refused to give us an exact number for some reason. That, in turn, led to speculation about why they took this approach and the most plausible one is that they are planning on releasing an M4 GTS model later on.

Proof in this regard is the fact that we’ve seen the upcoming model being tested around the world. Furthermore, the BMW database is already listing the car as ‘in development’. But enough about this dream car, the news today is that the new X5 M will be used as a medical car for this year’s MotoGP Championship.

As part of the continuous collaboration between the German manufacturer and Dorna Sports (the organizer behind the World Championship), the SUV will have the complete works on it. That includes not only the performance parts it needs to shine on the track but also the appropriate medical tools.

This would then turn it into one of the fastest ambulances in the world, having a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet good for 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 4.2 seconds and we’re pretty sure that you won’t find a faster emergency car.

The list of other cars that will be part of the fleet of official MotoGP vehicles this year includes the M4 Coupe, M3 Sedan, M6 Gran Coupe as them safety cars. On top of that, there will be an M5 offered for the Safety Officer and an M550d xDrive Touring that will double as a Medical Car.
