I’ll be honest and I’ll be the first one to admit that I panicked when I saw the latest interior spyshots of the M2. The reason? I thought that the car would come out with the 7-speed DCT gearbox alone.
As it turns out, the M division still knows what pleases their target demographic and according to a leaked options list the M2 will be available with a manual 6-speed gearbox too. That’s a huge relief for fans of the brand and potential customers.

OK, so maybe the intake ratio of the stick shift won’t be as high as expected but we will see it on the road and that’s going to be the one to get. Leaving that issue alone aside, let’s see what else this list revealed.

There will be only four colors available at first, varying from Sapphire Black to Mineral Grey, Long Beach Blue (the same one used for the new X6 M) and Alpine White. At the same time, the interior will be available only in one configuration, black leather with blue stitching. Also, there’s only one wheel option. These issues point to a limited production but we’re hoping that’s not going to be the case.

The Professional Navigation system will be standard and so will be carbon fiber trims for the interior, parking sensors in the back, and Shadow Line for black models.

Options include power heated seats, rearview camera, internet and apps, Harman Kardon sound system, Adaptive headlights and rear tinted windows.

To recap, the M2 will come out later this year (it seems like the Frankfurt Auto Show debut was postponed) with a revised version of the N55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine good for around 370 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

Of course, that’s only one of the improvements the M division will make to the 2 Series chassis, others including work on the suspension and rear axle. CFRP will be kept off of it to make sure the performance doesn’t cut into M4 territory but we still expect a 0-62 time of around 4.5 seconds.
