Two months ago in Geneva, the new 2016 Audi R8 looked ready to start a new era of German supercars. Since then, we've seen the Ingolstadt hot-shot imagined as a budget car, but today clients have to face the music: the R8 wears a €165,000 ($185,115, at current exchange rates) sticker.
So, what are you actually getting for this kind of money? First of all, that's the cheapest R8 version you can buy and by doing that, you receive a 5.2-liter V10 engine good for 540 HP. The setup is capable of blasting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 323 km/h (200 mph).

However, for €187,400 ($210,140) you can fill your garage with the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus version, using the same naturally aspirated 5.0-liter powerplant but tuned to deliver 610 HP. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is covered in just 3.2 seconds, and the car can reach a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

Audi decided to rely solely on an automatic gearbox for the two versions of the 2016 Audi R8. That means drivers will manage those power figures on the road through a seven-speed S-tronic transmission and an improved quattro all-wheel drive system. Designed for maximum response in critical situations on the road, the new quattro setup can deliver 100% torque on either the front axle or the rear axle, by responding accordingly to driving conditions.

In case the price tag looks inflated, you should know the R8 is here to satisfy buyers' wildest dreams, according to Audi officials:

“The new Audi R8 will deliver exactly what customers expect from a high-performance sports car,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. “This car brings our concentrated motorsport competence from the racetrack to the road.”

Until we get to drive the car, we'll add that advance sales of the new Audi R8 began on May 13, 2015, so expect the first cars to show up on the road somewhere around September 2015.
