Piracy. The youngsters think of downloading a torrent from the Internet when they hear that word. However, back when piracy was referring to committing warlike acts at sea, X marked the spot of a pirate’s treasure. The same applies with the 2015 SEAT Leon X-Perience we test-driven.
In a similar manner to the gold and rubies hidden in the sand of a Caribbean island by the scurvy dogs of days long past, the X on wheels is a treasure waiting for you to discover it. I admit that I wasn’t expecting the X-Perience to be so complete because the hatchback model leaves me rather cold.
With Volkswagen Golf Mk VII underpinnings, a fifth-gen Haldex coupling AWD system and an 184 HP 2-liter turbo diesel coupled to a six-speed DSG, what more could you want from a family-oriented estate? Visual individuality and a little bit of practicality? The 2015 SEAT Leon X-Perience has them in spades.
At first glance, the X doesn’t appear too different from the ST-branded Leon wagon, but try to concentrate on the little details. Yeah, the X-Perience insignias inside and out, the 4Motion system baptized 4Drive for SEAT’s sake, the orange stitching and the jacked-up ride height are some of those unique details.
When the full-LED headlamps and LED taillights are ticked from the options list, the exterior presence of the 2015 SEAT Leon X-Perience is far superior to what the model’s other derivatives boast with. In my case, the X has something more on the styling front than the racy Cupra derivative. Don’t ask what in particular, but I admit I like its understated persona.
If you want a recap of our SEAT Leon X-Perience review, let’s say that the Spanish brand is clearly on the right track and that the X is more attractive than the VW Golf Variant Alltrack it’s based on.
But if you are a true pirate and don’t care about the technical stuff, may we suggest you head over where X marks the spot? 44 high-definition pics are waiting for you inside the pirate chest.
