We have some great news for the people who feared that the upcoming coupe version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will succumb to the new downsizing trend taking over the Stuttgart car manufacturer.
According to MB Passion, the not-yet-launched S-Class Coupe C217 will only be available with twin-turbocharged V8 and V12 engines, in both rear-wheel drive and 4Matic all-wheel drive variants.
In other words, the Mercedes-Benz CL replacement will only have the S 500 Coupe, S 600 Coupe, S 63 AMG Coupe and S 65 AMG Coupe badges on the trunk, continuing the tradition of all its modern predecessors.
Being based on the S-Class W222 platform, the power outputs of each engine will be identical to the sedan, so expect the base version of the new S-Class Coupe to sport 455 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb ft) of torque, while the most powerful variant will feature no less than 630 hp and an electronically-limited torque of 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft).
Despite making us think that the production version of the gorgeous Concept S-Class Coupe was to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show last week, it seems that the model will be launched at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March, so expect more information about the car in the upcoming months.
