With only a few days separating us from the New York Auto Show, Nissan has officially revealed its brand new Murano. Designed with plenty of aggressive curves, slashes and swipes, its design takes the Resonance Concept of last year as close as it can get to production form.
The most striking feature on the whole car is Nissan's new V-Motion front end. The grille looks like blossoming layers of black, chrome and plexiglass in a pattern that shames more restrained SUVs in this segment.
IN profile, the Murano seems to have fallen victim to the coupe trend. Its greenhouse narrows towards the back, following the contours of a sloping roof and the rising effect of the lower window sills. Black trim is used for the B-, C- and D-pillars, but also for wing on top of the boot.
We don't know the real spec of the new Murano, but Nissan did reveal it will be available with a panoramic moonroof, LED headlights and 20-inch aluminum wheels (no, not as standard).
Power will come from a 3.5-liter V6 engine rated at 260-hp and 240 lb-ft (325 Nm) of torque. Like in the Pathfinder, this is linked to an Xtronic (!!) transmission and optional all-wheel drive. Nissan might also launch a hybrid 2.5-liter some time in the next couple of years.
We'll know more about Nissan's new SUV later on in the wheel. Sales are expected to start in the States towards the end of this year with prices remaining largely unchanged.
