At least when it comes to sales, the Chinese have taken over the auto world. But what if people from Down Under were to take the helm? Well, one possible consequence would be that we’d end up with an Ute treatment for just about anything, from sportscars and GTs to pony and musclecars.
While the pickup truck flavor isn’t going to rule the car kingdom anytime soon, such a world has already been imagined and we are now bringing it to you. The bed-happy experience comes from X-Tomi Design, who has rendered some of our favorite coupes as pickup trucks.

The digital artist has treated us with such creations throughout the year, but now he’s gone truly mental, including certain models that will never end on the blue side of the collar. We’ve split his digital contraptions in two categories - the one that stand the lightest chance of hypothetically fitting in and the one that... don’t.

  • We’ll open up the first category with the Bentley Continental GT Speed - Bentley enjoys holding twelve-cylinder engine records and such an eccentric oddity could only help.
  • Then there’s the BMW M4 - there have been so many digital imagery jokes about BMW pickup trucks that the idea of a real one doesn’t even seem all that shocking.
  • The Dodge Challenger Hellcat already has too much badassery to store in its trunk, with a pickup truck version only increasing the bad boy appeal.
  • The Challenger would need a competitor, so why not a ‘Stang pickup truck that you can take to the drag strip on the weekends?
  • The list ends with a Toyota GT86. Why are you asking for the reason behind this? It’s a Toyota pickup, it speaks for itself.
  • The list of no-nos kicks off with the Audi RS5. We know what we said about the M4, but Ingolstadt’s bohemian spirit just doesn’t go with a bed.
  • In a similar manner, we’ll dismiss the Cadillac ATS - GM has plenty of other brands to do the chores and the strive for luxury just doesn’t fit the label.
  • Perhaps the weirdest of the lot, at least as far as our eyes tell us, is the Lexus RC350. The Japanese automaker would be one of the last brands in the world to go with this workhorse flow.
  • The same can be said about the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale, but Italian coachbuilders have been known for their alternative play in the past, so there’s a bit of an opening here.
  • As for the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, while the shape of the vehicle protests, it’s interesting how Affalterbach is no stranger to rugged machines (the G63 AMG knows what we’re talking about).

Oh and by the way, if this unusual story seem a tad on the familiar side, perhaps you’re thinking about that time when X-Tomi rendered supercars and sportscars in base trim, with steel wheels and unpainted bumpers.
