If you haven’t already done so, open your calendar and mark April 17, 2014 as a very important date. This is the day when the Ford Mustang turns fifty and it looks like the Blue Oval has a pretty nice present for its pony. We are talking about the car in the adjacent spy photos, which seems to be the Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition.
This is a collection of elements pointing to the original ‘Stang and it all starts with the shade of White used on the body. The design of the rims is also a superb retro reference. Who knows, maybe we’ll also get whitewall tires on the production model...
Moreover, the front grille ditches the modern design found on the standard 2015 Mustang, switching to a layout borrowed from the original. Notice that the rear quarter windows are covered in camo - we expect these to feature a set of louvers here, as a nod to the fastback Mustang.
Aside from the visual changes we’ve listed above, the spied prototype sports Brembo brake calipers for serious stopping power.
Ford should bring the Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition to the New York Auto Show, so the present will be delivered right on time. And while we adore such retro flavors, we can't help but be amused by Ford's plan of introducing special editions for cars that aren't out on the streets yet.
PS: oh how we wish gasoline would still cost 30 cents per gallon as it did back in 1964 when the Mustang was launched...
