With the 2 Series Active Tourer out, introducing a couple of new engines to the BMW family, the rumor mill surrounding the upcoming JCW MINI started making more and more suppositions. The latest seems quite possible too.
The 225i Active Tourer is fitted with a brand new B48 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that makes 231 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The same engine is rumored to make its way on the new John Cooper Works hardtop, making it considerably more powerful than the outgoing model, rated at 211 HP and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft).

With the new chassis, revised suspension and new transmission, the 2015 model might actually turn out to be a sub 6-second car, 0.6 seconds faster than the current version that does the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 6.5 seconds.

At the moment, these are all just speculations but considering that the Cooper S model is already using the same 2-liter engine with 192 HP and that all the JCW rivals have roughly around 230 HP too (the S1, GTI Performance Pack), it’s quite possible that this rumor will become reality.
